What is GPRS? Does it use the Dialup number? 

GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) is a service supplied by your mobile phone network operator. It doesn't use a dial-up number (as GSM data calls do). Instead the APN (Access Point Node) is used to work out where to route your data requests.

My GPRS settings are not enabled what should I do?

GPRS is a service that your mobile phone network operator (e.g. O2, Vodafone, etc.) needs to enable before it can be used. You'll also need to ask your Network Operator to enable this service for you (a call to Customer Services should do the trick). In some cases, it may take up to 48 hours for your operator to enable this.

How can I become the member of MobTravel?

I have problems surfing over GPRS?

If your handset has a web browser, you may find that you can't surf web pages, even though the handset shows that you're connected. On a Pocket PC, this may show up as "page not found". On a Symbian OS Smartphone, you may see this as "GPRS: Invalid GPRS access point".

Most GPRS handsets are set with access to the network operator's WAP gateway, and this will only allow you to browse dedicated WAP content, and not standard Internet web pages. You'll need to set up your handset for Internet-over-GPRS, using the network operator's Internet APN, not the WAP APN (You'll find the information you need listed above). You'll also need to ask your Network Operator to enable this service for you (a call to Customer Services should do the trick). In some cases, it may take up to 48 hours for your operator to enable this.

Is email over GPRS supported?

Email over GPRS is supported, but you'll need to use an "Internet" not a "WAP" access point (you may need to ask your network operator to enable this). If your Smartphone has an email application and you have a POP email account, then you should be able to access email over GPRS.

If you're looking for a free POP email account, consider Virgin.net.  Virgin.net page contains links to setup instructions for using the service on many common handsets and PDAs. You may also find that your network operator offers you a free email account for use from your mobile.

Is GPRS faster than mobile phone dialup?  

GPRS runs faster than standard mobile phone dialup (which is normally 9.6kbps). GPRS speed depends on a number of factors (all to do with how many of the 8 'timeslots' are assigned by the network operator) - the maximum possible speed is 171kbps, but you're unlikely to ever get anywhere near this speed. Our tests show average speeds of around 25 to 40 kbps (still around 3 times faster than dialup).

What is Smartphone? 

A Smartphone is generally considered as handheld device that integrates personal information management and mobile phone capabilities in the same device. Often, this includes adding phone functions to already capable PDAs or putting "smart" capabilities, such as PDA functions, into a mobile phone.

What is Pocket PC?

An operating environment for handheld computers from Microsoft, based on the Windows CE* operating system. In 2000, Microsoft introduced the Pocket PC platform which includes a combination of Windows CE Version 3.0, an enhanced user interface, Pocket Office applications (Internet Explorer, Word and Excel), handwriting recognition, an e-book reader, wireless Internet and longer battery life. The Pocket PC was designed to compete more directly with the popular Palm devices.

The Pocket PC is part of the Windows Mobile platform, which also includes a version for Cell Phones (see Smartphone). Cell Phone capabilities can also be added to the Pocket PC (Pocket PC Phone). See Windows CE and Pocket PC Phone Edition.

What’s the difference between Pocket PC and Smartphone?

Pocket PCs come with mobile versions of office applications in addition to Microsoft Outlook Mobile. Though there are different Pocket PCs, many come with Wi-Fi to enable you to connect to the Internet when you are in a wireless hotspot. With a Pocket PC, you’ll be able to use Word Mobile, Excel Mobile, and PowerPoint Mobile and browse the Internet if you have a device with Wi-Fi and are in a wireless hotspot. You can compose e-mail messages and send them by synchronizing with your desktop computer or wirelessly when you’re in a hotspot.

If you have a Pocket PC Phone, you can access the Internet through your wireless connection—you won’t need to find a wireless hotspot. Internet access incurs data charges from your wireless provider.

A Smartphone has phone capabilities and comes with a smaller set of applications. Though you can add third-party software titles to your Smartphone, the smaller keypad and screen are designed to give you quick one-handed access to important data. A Smartphone is a good choice for business users who need to check e-mail, keep track of their calendars, and take voice notes, but who don’t need the added functionality of Word Mobile, Excel Mobile, and PowerPoint Mobile. If you find yourself wanting more functions after you’ve purchased your device, there are good third-party software titles designed to extend the capabilities of a Windows Mobile powered Smartphone.

What is APNs? 

APN (Access Point Name) is the name of an access point for GPRS.

For your phone to connect over GPRS, you'll need to have APN (Access Point Node).

When a GPRS mobile phone sets up a PDP context, the access point is selected. At this point an access point name (APN) is determined.

Note: Most operators have different access points for different services, and you'll need to pick the right one otherwise thing won't work.

What is Blue Tooth? 

Bluetooth technology is a way to connect wirelessly with other devices, peripherals, and your desktop computer. Bluetooth is used most commonly in Windows Mobile powered devices for wireless headsets.

OTA means "Over-the-Air" and refers to any wireless networking technology e.g. SMS etc.

I did not receive any reply from your support?

Your Palm HotSync ID appears in the top-right of the screen on your handheld device when you complete a HotSync to your PC or Mac.

Please make sure that the capitalization is correct and that there are no spaces at the beginning or end of the name when entering your ID.

This normally happens when any zip file is being opened without unzip program. In this case we recommend you to download a unzip program for your PC from www.winzip.com.

My purchased software is corrupt or is not working properly. What should I do now?  

I have downloaded a software but its either dead or partially corrupt file?

Please check your browser settings first. In fact, these errors are caused by using an ISP's proprietary browser, such as AOL, MSN, EarthLink, CompuServe or Prodigy. We recommend you to please use Internet Explorer or Netscape. But if still you are encountering the same problem then please check your browser’s security setting which might be set at ‘High’. You can check this usually under Tools or Preferences and set them to ‘Medium’ before your next attempt for purchase. You can also use any other PC which doesn’t either use firewalls or set at high security settings.

When I was installing the product at my handset, a ‘FATAL’ or ‘DLL’ error appeared?

If you want to know about any specific application error or feature, then we strongly recommend you to please contact the respective developer directly. I ordered a software for my phone and received the SMS, but can't install it on my phone.

I am getting an error message for my blackberry phone saying ‘no additional files found’. What does this mean?

Device Information FAQs

The IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) is unique ID of your phone. This ID is required when you purchase any mobile software. If you provide the incorrect ID of your handset then registration key will not work.

You can retrieve this ID by keying in *#06# and your mobile phone ID will be displayed on your handset screen. You can also find this information on the back of your device, usually in the battery compartment.

Your IMEI will display at your phone like 321456-98-987456-1 or 321456989874561 (A 15 digit unique code).

How can I find compatible device for my selected application?

At every product detail page you can find a list of compatible devices under ‘product features’. Please find out whether your handset is listed there or not. If your handset is listed in ‘compatible device list’ then it means that this application is compatible with your handset.

I am having problems with my device’s screen or other hardware-related problems?

This issue is related to your hand held device and must address the device maker. Please consult your device manufacturer.

What is my Smartphone Owner Name?

You can find and define your "Owner Name" by opening the "Settings" on your Smartphone. Go to "Programs" or "Start" menu. Scroll through the menu until you see the "settings" item, and then open it. You will then need to look for the "Owner Information" item, which is normally on the second page of settings.

How can I find my Blackberry PIN? 

Each Blackberry has a unique (8 character long value) PIN, used to identify your device against the Blackberry Enterprise Server.

The PIN is sometimes used to create your Unlock Key so you need to enter the PIN when you are purchasing software. You can find it on your Blackberry by selecting the Options icon, then selecting Status. It is also displayed in the Blackberry Desktop Redirector and in the Blackberry Desktop Manager.

How can I transfer information from my desktop computer to my device? 

You can transfer files to your device from your desktop computer using a USB cable or Bluetooth.

Installation FAQs

How do I install software on my Blackberry? 

To install please download the file to your desktop computer. Next launch the Desktop Manager and connect your handheld to the desktop PC. The desktop manager will notice that there is new software to install and will display a prompt to ask if you would like to install any new titles.

Note: Usually the Blackberry desktop manager software comes on CD with your Blackberry phone. New versions of the Blackberry desktop manager software are released periodically.

How can I install any application on my handset?
